The next season of Knitting Daily TV includes many star designs and industry specialists. Pictured here is Estonian lace expert Nancy Bush, the author of the forthcoming book Knitted Lace in Estonia demonstrating a beautiful heirloom-quality triangular shawl from her book. Never having appeared on a television show before, Nancy Bush did an excellent job describing Estonian traditions and have us all wishing we could travel to Estonia for the next taping. Series 200 of Knitting Daily TV will begin airing this January, so mark your calendars.

Ok, kõik tore aga mida peetakse mujal maailmas silmas Estonian lace´i all? Haapsalu salli? See ei olnud ju traditsiooniliselt kolmnurkne (kuigi praegu tehakse vist kolmnurkseid ka, piltidel paistavad).
Ma usun, et ta teab palju meie kudumistraditsioonidest ning on neid rohkem maailmale tutvustanud kui me ise. See kõik on kena! Aga ma loodan, et oma raamatus räägib ta ka sellest, et traditsiooniline Haapsalu sall on nelinurkne.

Traditsiooniline haapsalu rätik on nelinurkne, mõõtudega meeter x meeter või suurem. Rätik koosneb kolmest osast – keskosa, poort ja eraldi kootud ning külge õmmeldud äärepits. Hinnatuim värv oli valge, kuigi on kasutatud ka musti, halle ja pastelltoonides lõngu. Õige haapsalu rätik mahub läbi sõrmuse.

I found the information above about the KD TV with Nancy Bush. I´m thinking here what they mean by Estonian lace? If they mean Haapsalu shawl then the traditional Haapsalu shawl wasn´t triangular. The masters say:

Traditional Haapsalu scarf is square with measures of 100x100 up to 150 x150 cm. The scarf consists of three parts: fine patterned middle part with a border and separately knitted and sown edge lace. It is knitted , using double woollen yarn on wooden needles no. 3-4. The ready- made scarf is washed in a lukewarm soap-water, rinsed and framed immediately with an average tension. The most valuable is a white scarf. The material used to be a home-made single or double sheep wool, preferably little lamb`s wool. Later imported wool sorts were used, so that it was possible to drag a real Haapsalu scarf through a women`s ring.
