Natural dyeing with insects?! Täipunane lugu

I was looking for materials about yarn dyeing and found the link in estonian where they are discussing about colours, materials etc during the middle ages. It is interesting, one member there has the information that there is one insect - cochineal and it was used to get the red colour! Have you ever though about the colours in past?
